We preview the 5 live English Premier League fixtures taking place on Saturday and suggest a bet in each game.
Manchester City v Leicester – click here to bet
Manchester City host last year’s champions Leicester in the early kick-off. City can move to 3rd on the table with a victory because they are currently 4th, a point behind Liverpool but with a game in hand. They have taken 11 points from the last 15 they played for in the League and most recently beating Crystal Palace 5-0 at home. They have now gone 10 home matches without defeat but 3 of their last 5 games have ended in draws.
Assuming that Chelsea beat West Brom on Friday night Leicester could climb to 8th on the table with a victory here. A satisfactory result for the defending champions giving they looked like getting relegated at one point. They won their last 2 League matches, most recently 3-0 at home to Watford and they have won 2 of their last 5 matches on the road and 11 of their 18 away games have delivered for over 2.5 goal backers this season.
Manchester City 1/4
Suggested bet: Goals home team, 3 goals or more at 8/10.
City looked to be finishing the season strongly and this should be an open game where I expect the home team to score at least 3 goals.
Middlesbrough v Southampton – click here to bet
Middlesbrough will be playing their second last game in the English Premier League as they have been relegated and will play Championship football next season. They were no match for Chelsea on the road on Monday night losing 3-0 and they have only won 1 of their last 9 matches at home.
Southampton go into this game 10th on the table but they have a realistic chance of finishing 8th. Their recent form hasn’t been strong though and they have only taken 2 points from the last 15 on offer, most recently losing 2-0 at home to Arsenal. Southampton haven’t scored in their last 3 League matches but they have managed to find the net in 6 of their last 7 away games.
Suggested bet: Middlesbrough win at 57/20.
I have actually been quite impressed by Middlesbrough’s in their last few matches but they found their form too late to survive. I do think they are decent value to beat a Southampton team that is not playing very well at the moment.
Bournemouth v Burnley – click here to bet
Bournemouth currently sit 11th on the table on 42 points, 2 points and 3 positions clear of their opponents Burnley. Both sides are guaranteed of English Premier League football next season. Bournemouth have taken 7 points from the last 9 on offer in the League with their most recent game a 2-2 home draw against Stoke. 3 of Bournemouth’s last 4 home matches have had 3 goals or more in them.
Burnley are also coming off a 2-2 draw, theirs was against West Brom at home. Prior to that they secured their first away win of the season beating Crystal Palace 2-0 away. 11 of Burnley’s 18 away games have delivered for over 2.5 goal backers.
Suggested bet: Over 2.5 goals at 15/20.
Bournemouth home games have averaged 3.4 goals this season and with very little pressure on the sides I expect goals to flow.
Sunderland v Swansea – click here to bet
Sunderland beat Hull 2-0 away in their last start a remarkable result given that they had already been relegated and had nothing much to play for. They haven’t won in their last 9 home matches during which time they have only taken 4 points and they failed to find the back of the net in 6 of their last 7 home matches.
Swansea are still alive and kicking as far as a place in the EPL next season goes and they go into this game in 17th spot on 35 points just 1 point clear of Hull who sit in the final relegation position. They beat Everton 1-0 at home last time out but their away form has been poor and a 1-1 draw at Manchester United at the end of April halted a run of 6 successive away losses. The last 4 Swansea away games have had 2 goals or less in them.
Suggested bet: The draw at 11/4.
Swansea are firm favourites here on the basis that they have more to play for but Sunderland showed in their last match that they are not prepared to leave the League quietly and they might well fancy having an influence in who goes down. This could be a close game and I think the draw is a big runner.
Stoke City v Arsenal – click here to bet
Stoke are safe for another season at least of English Premier League football and they go into this weekend in 13th place on 41 points. They have only taken 2 points from the last 9 on offer in the League and most recently drew 2-2 away with Bournemouth. Stoke home matches have been on the low scoring side this season with 2.4 goals on average, 7 of the 18 home matches have had 2 goals or less in them.
Arsenal are currently in 5th position but they can climb within a point of Liverpool with a victory here. The Gunners have won 4 of their last 5 in the League with a 2-0 victory over Southampton away their most recent result. Arsenal away games have had the second highest average in the League with 3.4 goals per game and 13 of 18 Arsenal away matches have delivered for over 2.5 goal backers.
Stoke City 71/20
Suggested bet: Matchbet + Totals: Over 2.5 goals and Arsenal to win at 23/20.
The Gunners can never be trusted on the road but they have so much more to play for than Stoke and I think that will see them over the line in what should be an entertaining game.
