EPL Betting Preview, Saturday 29th April

335

There are 5 English Premier League fixtures taking place on Saturday and we take a look at each of them from a betting perspective.

Southampton v Hull Cityclick here to bet

Southampton go into this match in 9th spot on the log on 40 points and with their English Premier League survival pretty much guaranteed.  They were no match for Chelsea on the road in their last start and went down 4-2 on Tuesday night, their second successive defeat following a 3-0 defeat at home to Manchester City.  6 of the last 7 Southampton home matches have seen 3 goals or more scored.

Hull secured a valuable 3 points when they beat Watford 2-0 at home on the weekend.  The result kept them in 17th place in the League just 2 points clear of the relegation zone.  Hull’s away form has been awful, they have lost 5 in a row on the road and only Burnley have earned less points away from home this season.  The last 4 Hull away matches have all had a total of 4 goals in them.

Hull City 9/2

Suggested bet:  Over 2.5 goals 15/20.

The stats suggest that the goals will flow in this game and I am expecting exactly that.  We may have to wait awhile for the opener but once it comes there should be end to end action.

Stoke City v West Ham – click here to bet

Stoke have slipped to 11th on the table with 39 points after a recent run that has seen them take just 4 points from 21 on offer.  They were beaten 2-0 away by Swansea in their last start but have won 3 of their last 5 home matches including a 3-1 victory against Hull City in mid-April.  The last 3 Stoke home matches have delivered for over 2.5 goals backers.

West Ham are in 14th spot on the log on 38 points but such is the congestion in that area of the table that a victory could lift them up to 9th.  They have drawn their last 2 matches most recently a goalless stalemate at home to Everton.  They have only taken 2 points from the last 5 they have played for on the road and  6 of the last 7 West Ham away matches have seen 3 goals or more scored.

Betting

Stoke City 23/20

Draw 24/10

West Ham 24/10

Note:  Prices correct at the time of posting but are subject to change

Suggested bet:  Over 2.5 goals at 17/20.

West Ham leaked plenty of goals on the road but they are usually capable of getting on the score sheet as well and I have slight preference for this bet over the 7/10 that both teams score.

Sunderland v Bournemouth – click here to bet

Any faint hopes that Sunderland had of survival were surely extinguished when they lost to fellow relegation candidates Middlesbrough on Wednesday night.  They are rock bottom of the table on 21 points from their 33 matches and a full 12 points adrift of safety with only 5 games left to play.  They have only taken 2 points from the last 27 available and they are without a win in their last 8 home matches, failing to score in 5 of their last 6 at the Stadium of Light.

Bournemouth are in 13th spot and they look to be safe on their 38 points which is 7 points clear of the relegation zone.  They beat Middlesbrough 4-0 at home in their last start but they went down to Spurs by the same margin the last time they travelled.  Their away form is very poor with 3 draws and 4 defeats in their last 7.

Betting

Sunderland 39/20

Draw 5/2

Bournemouth 14/10

Note:  Prices correct at the time of posting but are subject to change

Suggested bet:  The draw at 5/2.

I was tempted to go for Bournemouth as Sunderland’s morale must be at an all time low but the Bournemouth away record puts me off and I think a scrappy draw is on the cards here at 5/2.

West Bromwich v Leicester – click here to bet

West Brom are effectively topping the second half of the League and they sit in 8th place on 44 points a full 14 points behind 7th place Everton.  They have lost their last 3 matches during which time they failed to score a goal and they are coming off successive 1-0 home defeats to Liverpool and Southampton.

Leicester have only taken 1 point from the last 9 available having previously won 5 games in a row.  That winning run has most likely ensured their survival in the English Premier League but they are not totally out of danger on 37 points, 6 clear of the relegation zone.  Leicester have the 3rd worst away record in the division and they have only taken 7 points from their 17 matches on the road.

Betting

West Bromwich 31/20

Draw 47/20

Leicester 37/20

Note:  Prices correct at the time of posting but are subject to change

Suggested bet:  Over 2.5 goals at 19/20.

Both teams are struggling and goals are certainly not a foregone conclusion but there have been 3 goals or more in their last 4 head to head meetings and that is enough to sway me into betting that trend continues.

Crystal Palace v Burnleyclick here to bet

Palace were beaten 1-0 at home  by Spurs on Wednesday night and they currently sit in 12th spot on the log on 38 points, 7 points clear of the relegation zone with just 4 matches left to play.  Prior to that Spurs defeat they had taken 10 points out of 12 at home.

Burnley are 4 positions below Palace in 16th spot on the log but only 2 points behind them and a victory here would take them above their opponents.  They were beaten 2-0 at home by Manchester United in their last start and they have the worst away record in the league with just 4 points and no victories in 17 matches

Betting

Crystal Palace 8/10

Draw 26/10

Burnley 77/20

Note:  Prices correct at the time of posting but are subject to change

Suggested bet:  Crystal Palace win at 8/10.

Palace have been playing some good football against strong teams and I cannot see them slipping up against a team with such an awful away record.
