The Springboks sit on 13 log points after 2 wins, 2 draws and a solitary loss that occurred in New Zealand. They drew 27-27 at home to Australia last week having drawn 23-23 to the same opposition on the road and they need to win here if they are to guarantee themselves second place on the log with Australia just 3 points behind them. South Africa’s other home game in the competition was a 37-15 victory over Argentina in Round 1.
New Zealand wrapped up the top spot of the Rugby Championship with a bonus point victory in Argentina last week. They won the game by 26 points beating the handicap which was set at 22 points. They have scored 32 tries and conceded just 11 in the Rugby Championship matches to date and their other away match was a 20 point victory over Australia in Round 1.
New Zealand have won 4 out of the last 5 matches they have played in South Africa and last season they beat the Boks 57-15 in Durban scoring 9 tries without reply. The sides met in New Zealand in Round 4 with the All Blacks running out 57-0 victors scoring 8 tries in the process.
South Africa 11/2
New Zealand 1/8
South Africa +15.5 at 1/1
New Zealand -15.5 at 8/10
Suggested bet: Race to 10 points, South Africa at 28/10.
I cannot see South Africa winning this game given the recent nature of defeats they have suffered but I do think they can be competitive earlier on and getting almost 3/1 that they will be the first team to reach 10 points appeals as a value play.
