Sri Lanka v India, Third Test Match Preview


India have wrapped up a series win in Sri Lanka and now go in search of a clean sweep when the teams meet in the third test match which gets underway at Pallekele on Saturday.

After winning the first test in this 3 match series by 304 runs, India clinched the series with an innings and 53 run victory in Colombo last week. Pujara (133) and Rahane (132) were top scorers in India’s mammoth first innings total of 622/9 declared in the second test and their bowlers then finished the job. Ashwin took 5 wickets in Sri Lanka’s first innings total of 183 and Jadeja also claimed 5 victims in the second innings where Sri Lanka offered much more resistence before being dismissed for 386.

Looking at the series stats Pujara is top run scorer with 301 ahead of Sri Lanka’s Karunaratne who has made 265. Dhawan has 239 and Rahane with 232 runs round out the top 4.

With the ball the Indian spinners have been dominant, Jadeja has taken 13 wickets and Ashwin 11 and Pradeep is top Sri Lankan with 6.

On the team news front Herath is reportedly out for Sri Lanka with a back injury and Jadeja misses out for India through suspension.

The test series ends here but the teams will then move on to the ODI’s with 5 matches scheduled to take place.
