Arsenal are spending the first part of pre-season in Australia and on Thursday they will face Sydney FC in a televised friendly.
The Gunners will start the new English Premier League season at home to Leicester City on 11th August and a week before that they face Chelsea in the Community Shield. They missed out on a place in the top four last season but did finish on a high in winning the FA Cup and Arsene Wenger remains at the helm.
Although doubts over the future of Alexis Sanchez remain at the time of writing, the Gunners have brought in striker Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon for a reported fee of £46.5m and left-back Sead Kolasinac is another high profile arrival from Schalke. Sanchez has not been included in the travelling party and it’s likely that other big names will be eased back into the starting line up over the coming weeks.
In terms of the betting for next season’s English Premier League title race Arsenal can currently be backed at 11/1 to be crowned champions and they are 28/10 third favourites (behind Chelsea and Spurs) to be top London club. The price for the Gunners to clinch the top four finish which eluded them last season is currently 17/20. Click here for the full list of outright betting markets.
This is the first of two games against local sides with Western Sydney Wanderers next up on Saturday and both games take place at the ANZ Stadium where fans of Super Rugby are used to seeing the Waratahs ply their trade. After this Arsenal head to China where they will face Bayern and Chelsea before returning home for the Emirates Cup.
