The 2017 CIMB Classic, Betting Preview

125

The TPC Kuala Lumpur West course in Malaysia is the venue for this week’s PGA Tour event the CIMB Classic from the 12th to the 15th of October.

It’s off to Malaysia this week for a limited field event and the TPC Kuala Lumpur West course is a par 72 layout that will offer plenty of birdie opportunities. A look at the stats suggest that good ball strikers with hot putters will feature and the ability to sustain a run of low scoring will be essential.

Justin Thomas has done this for the last 2 years and he is a 4/1 favourite (last year we backed him at 18/1) to make it a hatrick with Matsuyama 2nd on the betting boards at 9/1. While Thomas is a very worthy favourite I will look to take him on this week with some longer prices.

Selections:

Xander Schauffele each way at 25/1

His rise to being one of the top golfers in the world has been incredibly fast and he now sits just outside the top 30 after winning the Rookie of the Year award on the PGA Tour. His most recent start was a win in the Tour Championship and he also had a couple of top 20 finishes in the playoffs. He makes his first start at this course.

Thomas Pieters each way at 33/1

Pieters game has gone off the boil a bit but he will have decent memories of this course where he has finished no worse than 16th in his 2 starts having last played here in 2014.

Si Woo Kim each way at 70/1

Kim had a steady but not spectacular start to his season and he should be fresh to challenge on a course where he cracked the top 10 on debut last year.

Kevin Na each way at 33/1

Na has a great record in his event with a 2nd and a 3rd place finish in 3 starts. He also tailed off towards the end of last season after a strong run and he looks ready to challenge again here.
