The Irish Open 2017, Betting Preview

The Portstewart Golf Course (Strand Course) in Northern Ireland plays host to this week’s Irish Open and Rory McIlroy is a 13/2 market leader.

The Strands course is a  par 72 layout and will be used for this event for the first time. It is a links course so ability to play in the wind will be an asset but aside from that we do not have a lot to go on when it comes to making selections. Rory McIlroy hosts the event and he will also start as a firm favourite priced at 13/2 at the time of writing. The field is a strong one though with players looking to fine tune ahead of The Open and PGA Tour regulars like Matsuyama, Rose and Rahm will also be teeing it up.

28/1 and better the balance, prices correct at the time of posting but subject to change

Rory McIlroy at 13/2 – win only

The defending champion hasn’t been in great nick and was particularly disappointing when missing the cut at the US Open. Unlike most of the players he has played the course though and I get the feeling that his game is not far from kicking into gear.

Tyrrell Hatton at 30/1 – each way

Hatton has successive top 5’s in this event and that is enough to see me ignore some rather poor recent form and successive missed cuts.

Chris Wood at 60/1 – each way

Wood has a decent record at this event and he has a top 10 and a top 20 to his credit (remember these will be at different courses) in the last 3 years. His form has dipped since a runner-up finish earlier in the year and I am hoping he finds his game this week.
