Wimbledon 2017, Ladies Semi-Finals Betting Preview

199

We are down to the final 4 players at Wimbledon and the ladies semi-finals take place on Thursday.

Venus Williams v Johanna Konta

Venus Williams the 10th seed becomes the oldest semi-finalist for 23 years after she defeated the 13th seed Jelena Ostapenko in two sets 6-3 and 7-5 in the last 8.  Ostapenko was a month old when Williams made her debut in 1997.  This was William’s 100th match at Wimbledon, giving her a winning record of 86-14 and the victory returns her to the top 10 in the rankings when they are released next week.

She now goes on to face 6th seed Johanna Konta who became the first British woman to advance to a Wimbledon semi-final since Virginia Wade back in 1978. Konta bounced back from one set down in her quarter-final match against 2nd seed Simona Halep to take it 6-7 (2), 7-6 (5) and 6-4.

Johanna Konta leads Venus Williams 3-2 in their head-to-head

Williams 1/1

Konta 8/10

Suggested Bet: Konta win at 8/10

Konta has really come of age in this tournament and although she plays a hardened veteran in Williams I think the momentum she got from her come back in the quarters and the home support can carry her through to the final.

Garbine Muguruza v Magdalena Rybarikova

Garbine Muguruza the 14th seed advanced to the semi-final with a two set 6-3 and 6-4 win over 7th seed Svetlana Kuznetsova in the quarter-final.  She is now 2 wins away from a first Wimbledon title.  In 2015 she reached the final but was beaten by Serena Williams.

She will now face the unseeded Magdalena Rybarikova, who had never been past the third round of a Grand Slam event. She reached the last 4 with an easy straight sets 6-3 and 6-3 quarter-final victory over Coco Vandeweghe the 24th seed.

In the Head to Head this pair are locked at 2 matches each.

Muguruza 4/10

Rybarikova 39/20

Suggested Bet: Rybarikova win at 39/20

Rybarikova is rightly the underdog but her price is bigger than I expected. She is playing great tennis and beat Muguruza in straight sets in Birmingham last time these two met in 2015.
