Wimbledon 2017, Men’s Semi-Finals Betting Preview

We are down to the final 4 players at Wimbledon with the men’s semi-finals take place on Friday. We take a look at both matches from a betting perspective.

Roger Federer vs Tomas Berdych

Roger Federer the 3rd seed is looking for his 8th Wimbledon title and advanced to the last 4 after defeating 6th seed Milos Raonic in 3 sets 6-4, 6-2 and 7-6 (4) in their quarter-final.  Last year Raonic had beaten Federer in the Wimbledon semi-final so it was an important psychological hurdle for a resurgent Federer.

He will now face the 11th seed Tomas Berdych who reached the semi-finals when 2nd seed Novak Djokovic retired with an elbow injury early in the second set of their quarter-final match.  Berdych had won the first set 7-6 (2) and was 2-0 up in the second when Djokovic had to retire.  This will be Berdych’s 3rd time in his career that he has reached the last 4 at Wimbledon as he had a spot in the semi in 2016 and finished runner-up in 2010.

In the head to head Federer leads Berdych 18-6 and the pair haven’t met on grass since the quarter-finals in 2010 when Berdych won in 4 sets.

Federer 1/8

Berdych 19/4

Suggested Bet: Correct Set Score – Federer 3-0 at 19/20

Federer is having a superb year and he should have few problems in seeing off Berdych who while he is playing well was somewhat fortunate to have got to the last 4 thanks to a Djokovic injury.

Sam Querrey vs Maric Cilic

Sam Querrey the 24th seed defeated the top seed and defending champion, Andy Murray, in 5 sets 3-6, 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-1 and 6-1 to reach his first major semi-final.  Murray struggled with a hip injury in the latter stages of the match but Querrey still had to keep his head and he certainly deserves credit for the win.

Querrey will now face 7th seed Maric Cilic who beat the 16th seed Gilles Muller in 5 sets, 3-6, 7-6 (6), 7-5, 5-7 and 6-1.  In his 11th appearance it will be Cilic’s first time advancing to the last 4 at Wimbledon and he has now reached 4 Grand Slam semi-finals.

Cilic leads Querrey 4-0 in the head-to-head

Querrey 5/2

Cilic 3/10

Suggested bet: Correct Set Score – Cilic 3-1 at 2.55/1

Cilic may have a 100% record against his opponent but all 4 games have been close and all 3 of their meetings on grass have gone the distance including a pair of 5 setters at Wimbledon. Cilic is favoured to advance but I am backing him to drop a set in doing so.
