Afcon 2019, Qualifiers Preview 13 October

We take a look at the 4 live Afcon 2019 qualification matches taking place on Saturday and suggest a bet in each.

Uganda v Lesotho

Uganda are currently top of their group on 4 points after an away win over Cape Verde and a 0-0 draw at home to Tanzania.  They face Lesotho who are 2nd in the group, having drawn both their matches 1-1 at home to Cape Verde and away to Tanzania.

Uganda 9/20

Draw 29/10

Lesotho 33/4

Suggested bet:  Handicap, Uganda (-1) at 14/10.

Lesotho have punched above their weight so far but I think in Uganda they are going to find a side that is too strong for them.

Mozambique v Namibia

Mozambique are currently top of Group K with 4 points from their 2 matches and they play Namibia who are sitting last in the group with just a single point from 2 games.

Mozambique drew their last match 2-2 at home to Guinea Bissau and they previously beat Zambia 1-0 on the road, which given they started the match at 6/1 was a huge upset. Namibia drew 1-1 at home with Zambia last time out and lost 1-0 to Guinea Bissau in their opening game on the road.

These sides met in the COSAFA Cup in 2016 with Namibia winning 3-0.

Mozambique 17/20

Draw 43/20

Namibia 39/10

Suggested bet:  The draw at 43/20.

Mozambique are odds on favourites here and I think the value lies in the draw especially given Namibia’s very strong track record against Mozambique.

Nigeria v Libya

Libya currently top Group E on 4 points ahead of South Africa on goal difference with Nigeria a point behind in 3rd.  As two teams qualify from the group, this match is of critical importance.

Nigeria bounced back from an opening home defeat to South Africa to beat the Seychelles 3-0 and Libya hammered the Seychelles 5-1 at home in their opener before drawing 0-0 away to South Africa.

Nigeria 5/10

Draw 57/20

Libya 27/4

Suggested bet:  Half-time / Full-time, Nigeria / Nigeria at 14/10.

Bafana Bafana may have fluffed their lines against Libya but I am expecting no such thing from Nigeria who start this game under some serious pressure to get the win and I expect an early goal and them to go on and the win comfortably.

DR Congo v Zimbabwe

The DR Congo and Zimbabwe are currently level on 4 points each in Group G, the same amount of points as the Congo.

The DR Congo drew 1-1 away with Liberia in their last start and they beat Congo 3-1 in their opening game at home.  Zimbabwe drew 1-1 away with Congo last time out and they won at home 3-0 against Liberia in their opener.

These sides haven’t met since the African Nations Championship in 2009 when they drew 1-1.

DR Congo 6/10

Draw 26/10

Zimbabwe 5/1

Suggested bet:  Handicap, Zimbabwe (+1) at 5/4.

Zimbabwe are playing some good football and winning at the DR Congo is never an easy task, I do think they are capable of getting at least a point out of the game.
