AFCON Qualifiers Preview, 10th October

393

The next round of AFCON 2019 qualifiers gets underway in midweek and we look at two televised matches taking place on Wednesday including Ethiopia v Kenya and Zambia v Guinea Bissau

Ethiopia v Kenya

This is a Group C clash and after 2 rounds of qualifiers it’s wide open with these 2 nations both having earned 3 points, the same total as Ghana and Sierra Leone.

Ethiopia’s first qualifier was a disaster as they crashed to a 5-0 defeat in Ghana but they managed to put themselves back in contention with a 1-0 home win over Sierra Leone last month.

Kenya’s qualification campaign also started badly as they lost 2-1 in Sierra Leone but a 1-0 home win over Ghana a month ago is a result which really takes the eye.

The teams met in qualifiers back in 2015 and Ethiopia were 2-0 winners on home soil with the return in Kenya ended 0-0.

Suggested bet: Draw 21/10

Kenya’s excellent win over Ghana should see them arrive in good shape but it’s rarely easy when travelling in these qualifiers and we side with the draw.

Zambia v Guinea Bissau

This is a Group A clash and it’s surprising to see Zambia currently propping up this quartet. Zambia started with a 1-0 home defeat to Mozambique and next time out they drew 1-1 at Namibia to leave them 3 points off the top 2.

With 4 points from 2 matches Guinea Bissau are vying for top spot with Mozambique whom they shared 4 goals with in an away fixture in September. They began with a 1-0 home win over Namibia and when they met Zambia in the qualifiers for the 2016 finals they drew 0-0 away and won 3-2 at home.

Guinea Bissau 79/20

Zambia have plenty to do when it comes to making up lost ground but the better form lies with the visitors who are taken to avoid defeat.
