Ajax v Tottenham, Champions League Semi-Final Preview

English side Tottenham have it all to do if they are to reverse a 1-0 home defeat when they visit Ajax in a second leg semi-final Champions League match on Wednesday night.

Let’s start with a look at the outright betting at the time of writing which is before the Liverpool v Barcelona match.  Ajax are the 33/10 second favourites behind Barcelona at 9/20 with Tottenham 10/1 and Liverpool the rank outsiders at 20/1 – click here for outright betting markets.

Ajax have certainly not had an easy march into the semi-finals having to see off Real Madrid and Juventus in the round of 16 and quarter-finals respectively.  Interestingly enough they have done better away from home than at home and their last 3 home games have seen them drawn 2 and lose 1.

Tottenham overcame Manchester City on away goals in their quarter-final and they saw off German giants, Dortmund, in the last 16.  They were favoured to beat Ajax in the first leg of their quarter-final, but lost 1-0 at home and they are really battling on the road domestically and in Europe this season they have only won once on the road.

Suggested bet:  Ajax win at 11/10

Tottenham will be forced to come at Ajax but they just don’t seem to be playing well enough at the moment and although Ajax’s record is not as good as they are on the road, I think they will take advantage of Spurs when they move forward and will hit them on the counter attack.
