ATP Brisbane Semi-Finals, Preview

188

The semi-finals of the ATP Brisbane take place in the early hours of Saturday morning South African time and we take a look at the games from a betting angle.

Jeremy Chardy v Kei Nishikori

Chardy has had to work hard to get to the semi-finals with all 3 of his matches going to 3 sets. In his quarter-final he required a 3rd set tiebreak to beat Yasutaka Uchiyama and in both his previous matches he came from a set down to win.

Kei Nishikori is the 2nd seed and he has had a far easier passage winning both his matches in straight sets. In the last 8 he beat Dimitrov 7-5, 7-5 and he looks well poised to make a great start to 2019.

Nishikori leads the head to head stats 6-2 including winning the last 5 meetings between the players.

Chardy 38/10

Nishikori 2/11

Suggested Bet:  1st Set Correct Score Nishikori 6-3 at 29/10

I think this could be one sided but so do the bookies so a speculative play for me on the correct score in the 1st set.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga v Daniil Medvedev

Tsonga was too good for 7th seed DE Minaur in the quarter-finals winning 6-4, 7-6. He has yet to drop a set in the tournament having comfortably seen off his last 32 and last 16 opponents.

His opponent will be 4th seed Medvedev who beat 5th seed Raonic in a tough match to reach the last 4. He dropped the 1st set to a tiebreaker but stormed back to win the next 2 sets 6-3 and 6-4. In the round of 16 he beat Andy Murray in straight sets.

Tsonga won the only meeting between the pair in straight sets back in 2017.

Tsonga 1/1

Medvedev 8/10

Suggested Bet: Tsonga win at 1/1

Tsonga is in the twilight of his career but he is playing great tennis and always seems to go well at this time of the year. This should be a great contest and I am backing the marginal underdog who has proven in the past he can handle this opponent.
