ATP Rogers Cup Semi-Final Preview

We have reached the business end of the Rogers Cup taking place in Canada and we take a look at the two semi-finals from a betting angle

Kevin Anderson v Stefanos Tsitsipas

4th seeded South African Kevin Anderson has been in excellent form and he stormed past 5th seed Grigor Dimitrov 6-2 and 6-2 in his quarter-final.  He has only dropped one set in his 3 matches in the tournament to date, in what is his first tournament since losing to Djokovic in the Wimbledon final.

Unseeded Tsitsipas is playing some excellent tennis at the moment and he beat the inform 2nd seed, Alexander Zverev, in a three set quarter-final, 3-6, 7-6 and 6-4.  He had previously beaten Djokovic in three sets in the last 16 and has also seen off Dominic Thiem on route to the semi-finals.  This is his second impressive tournament in a row having reached the semi-finals in Washington where he lost to Zverev.

These two have only met once before and that was on clay earlier this season where Tsitsipas won in three sets.

Kevin Anderson 11/20

Stefanos Tsitsipas 29/20

Suggested Bet: Total games, Kevin Anderson, over 12.5 at 9/10.

I am expecting Anderson to win this game but I do think that his opponent is capable of pushing him all the way and that we will get some lengthy sets with Anderson hopefully getting 13 more games in total.

Rafael Nadal v Karen Khachanov

Top seed Rafael Nadal overcame some stern resistance from 6th seed, Marin Cilic, to come from behind and win in three sets, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 in their quarter-finals.  He saw off Stan Wawrinka in the last 16 without dropping a set and to date has just dropped the one set to Cilic in the tournament.

His opponent is unseeded Karen Khachanov who had few problems in disposing of Robin Haase 6-3, 6-1 in his last 8 match.  Prior to that he had beaten the big serving John Isner in two tie-break sets and is yet to drop a set in his 4 matches in the tournament.

These two have met 3 times with Nadal winning on each occasion and the only meeting on hard court was in 2017 in China where Nadal won 6-3, 6-3.

Rafael Nadal 1/5

Karen Khachanov 67/20

Suggested bet:  Total games over 22.5 at 12/10.

Nadal is a firm favourite for this game so I am turning to the exotic markets and I think there may be some value in backing his younger opponent to make this a contest and I am hoping we see two very tight sets or better still a third set so that there are 23 games or more in total.
