ATP World Tour Finals, Semi-Finals Preview

The group stages are now behind us and we take a look at the two semi-finals taking place at the O2 Arena in London on Saturday and suggest a bet in each match.

Roger Federer v Alexander Zverev

Federer has come through Group Leyton Hewitt which consisted of Kevin Anderson, Dominic Thiem and Kei Nishikori.  Federer has yet to drop a set in the tournament, beating Anderson 6-4, 6-3 in his last game and his toughest match was a 7-6, 6-3 victory over Nishikori.  His last tournament saw him go out in the semi-finals at the Paris Masters in a tight 3 setter against Novak Djokovic.

Zverev came through the Group Guga Kuerten which consisted of Djokovic, Cilic and Isner.  He lost his opening game in straight sets to Djokovic before beating Cilic in two tie breakers and then sealed his spot in the last 4 with a 7-6, 6-3 victory over Isner.

Federer has a slight edge in the head-to-head stats with 3 wins versus the 2 of his opponent and the pair last met in the 2017 World Tour Finals with Federer winning in 3 sets.

Roger Federer 5/10

Alexander Zverev 15/10

Suggested Bet: Total number of sets, 3 at 5/4.

Federer has looked in excellent form but in Zverev he has a man who knows what it takes to beat him and I can see this one going the distance.

Novak Djokovic v Kevin Anderson

Novak Djokovic is playing excellent tennis and booked his spot in the semi-finals with a match to spare.  He will be in action on Friday night against Cilic but the result of that game is irrelevant after Djokovic comfortably beat Zverev and Isner in straight sets, conceding just 12 games.  He entered this event off a surprise loss to Karen Khachanov 7-5, 6-4 in the Paris Masters.

Anderson finished behind Federer in the Leyton Hewitt Group, losing in straight sets to Federer in his last game.  He was in excellent form prior to that though, hammering Nishikori for the loss of just one game and beating Dominic Thiem 6-3, 7-6.  That Nishikori win was particularly impressive giving he lost to Nishikori in straight sets in the Paris Masters in his last start.

Novak Djokovic has generally dominated matches between the pair and holds a 7-1 career record including a marathon 5 set win at Wimbledon in 2015.

Novak Djokovic 1/8

Kevin Anderson 19/4

Suggested bet:  Set Handicap, Kevin Anderson (+1.5) at 31/20.

Finding a bet on this one-sided betting heat is not easy but as well as Djokovic is playing he showed in the final in Paris when he lost to Khachanov that he is vulnerable and Anderson is playing some superb tennis at the moment.  This is very much a patriotic punt but I am hoping that Anderson grabs at least a set.
