Australia v Argentina, Rugby Championship Preview

Australia host Argentina at the CBUS Super Stadium on the Gold Coast on Saturday and the visitors will be looking to win the first time in Australia in 5 attempts in the Rugby Championship.

It is very unlikely that either of these teams is going to win the Rugby Championship and the betting market which will probably attract the most attention now is the outright betting without New Zealand where Australia are 9/10, South Africa are 12/10 and Argentina are 8/1 – click here for outright betting.

Australia showed plenty of heart in coming back from behind to beat South Africa 23-18 in Brisbane last week having trailed 18-17 at the break.  It was a much needed bounce back for the Wallabies who had lost both home and away to New Zealand by over 20 points and they had also lost a close series 2-1 to Ireland at home in mid-year.

Argentina gave New Zealand their toughest challenge of the Tournament last week before going down by 22 points in Nelson.  They had previously stunned South Africa 32-19 in Mendoza and that came on the back of an opening week defeat in South Africa when they went down by 13 points, a result which probably flattered them on the day.

As mentioned in the intro, Australia have won all 5 Rugby Championship matches at home to Argentina and the last 2 have been by winning margins of 25 and 16 points respectively.

Australia 1/3

Draw 30/1

Argentina 5/2

Australia -9.5 at 9/10

Argentina +9.5 at 9/10

Suggested bet:  Handicap, Argentina +9.5 at 9/10.

Argentina look like a transformed side under new management and appear to have taken a lot of heart from the Jaguares run of away victories in Super Rugby.  Australia have had the better of things when the teams have met in Australia but Argentina showed last week that they are not to be taken lightly and I am backing them to beat the handicap.
