Brazil topped their group after recovering from a slow start and a 1-1 draw with Switzerland to beat Costa Rica and Serbia both 2-0. They then got their 3rd successive 2-0 victory when they beat Mexico in the last 16, a game where they absorbed early pressure before dominating.
Belgium have won 4 from 4 but after cruising through the group stages with comfortable wins over Panama and Tunisia and a 1-0 win over England they were given a real scare in the last 16 against Japan. Going in to the break at half-time there was no warning of what was to come but Japan quickly went ahead 2-0 only for Belgium to fight back to level the match and eventually snatch it in the final minute of extra time.
These sides have only met once in the World Cup playoffs in 2002 with Brazil winning 2-0.
Suggested bet: The draw at 24/10.
I am not sure what to make of this Brazil side, they certainly looked much stronger than Mexico but then Mexico were soundly beaten by Sweden in the group stages. Belgium on the other hand looked very impressive in the group stages but didn’t particularly impress against Japan. That been said I don’t think there is going to be much between these sides and as has happened in most of these games in the knock-out stages the draw will be a big runner.
