The final of the Mzansi Super League takes place at Newlands on Sunday when Cape Town Blitz clash with Jozi Stars.
Cape Town Blitz:
The Blitz wasted no time in putting themselves up as the team to beat in this tournament. They won their first 4 matches to go well clear at the top of the standings and although they only won 2 of the subsequent 6, they had stolen a march on the rest of the field. The Blitz had top spot, and this home final secured by the time they lost their final round robin match to Durban Heat in Cape Town.
The head to heads with Jozi Stars make interesting reading. The Blitz won the first meeting which took place at the Wanderers by 62 runs, posting 198/5 (Quinton de Kock 74) and bowling Jozi out for 136.
The boot was on the other foot in the return at Newlands with Jozi Stars posting 196/4 (Hendricks 79) and the Blitz were bowled out for 146.
Jozi finished as runners up Cape Town in the round robin stage. In contrast to their opponents here they didn’t start well, winning just 1 and losing 3 of their first 4 matches. Thereafter they put together a run of 5 wins in the next 6 to charge up the standings and they were just 1 point shy of the Blitz at the end of the round robin.
Jozi then had to face Paarl Rocks in the “Eliminator” in Johannesburg on Friday but the match was abandoned without a ball being bowled. As the higher placed finisher, they boarded the plane to Cape Town for this final.
