Friday night’s Mzansi Super League action comes from Newlands where log leaders Cape Town Blitz host Paarl Rocks
Cape Town Blitz:
Despite slipping to a 50 run defeat at home to Jozi Stars on Tuesday night Cape Town Blitz continue to lead the way in the race for top spot. The loss earlier this week was just their second of the tournament and their overall record comprises of 5 wins, 2 defeats and 1 no result. Their other defeat in this tournament came in the first meeting with Paarl Rocks back in Match 11. The Blitz posted just 140 batting first in that game and Paarl chased it down with 7 balls to spare and 5 wickets in tact. Prior to that Blitz had won their first 4 matches of the tournament but the chasers have been gaining ground and after this Blitz have just 1 round robin match remaining.
Paarl Rocks most recent outing came away to Tshwane Spartans on Wednesday afternoon and they lost a low scoring game by 4 wickets. Paarl could only manage 121 on a difficult surface for batting but their bowlers didn’t throw the towel in and the made the Spartans sweat for victory which was only sealed with 3 balls to spare.
Paarl Rocks now have 3 wins and 4 defeats against their name and although they are still in the equation for a play off spot, another loss here could end their hopes if other results go against them.
