Champions League Quarter-Final Preview, Wednesday 17 April

We take a look at the 2 UEFA Champions League second leg quarter-finals taking place on Wednesday and suggest a bet in each.

Porto v Liverpool – click here to bet

Porto were beaten 2-0 at Liverpool in the first leg and they will be looking at their superb home record as giving them a chance of staying in this tie.  They played 4 home games in Europe this season winning each of them including beating Roma 2-1 in the second leg of their last 16 encounter to force extra time where they won the tie.

Liverpool have not been that impressive on the road in Europe this season, although they did beat Bayer Munich 3-1 away to book their spot in the last 8.  Prior to that they had lost all 3 of their games in the Group stages.

Domestically both teams are going well and Porto have won their last 6 while Liverpool continue to keep the pressure on Manchester City and they have won 5 League games in a row and beat Chelsea 2-0 at home on the weekend.

Suggested bet:  Both teams to score, YES, at 15/20

This bet would have arrived in Porto’s last 3 home games in Europe and I think Liverpool will push hard for that away goal.

Manchester City v Tottenhamclick here to bet

Tottenham caused something of an upset when they beat Manchester City 1-0 at home in the first leg, but since an opening week loss to Lyon in the Group stages, City have been powerful at home with a 6-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk, 2-1 win over Hoffenheim and a 7-0 win over Schalke in the last 16.  They continue to stay just ahead of Liverpool in the EPL and have won their last 9 League games.

Tottenham hammered Huddersfield 4-0 in the League on the weekend to consolidate their 3rd spot in the EPL.  They were very impressive in their last 16 encounter beating Dortmund 4-0 on aggregate after a 1-0 win in Germany.  In 4 away matches in Europe they have won 1, lost 1 and drawn 2 with one of those draws coming against Barcelona.

When these sides met in the League at Tottenham earlier this season City won 1-0 and the last time City hosted them was in 2017 when they won 4-1.

Suggested bet:  Handicap, Manchester City (-1) at 8/10

City are still battling on multiple fronts, but they continue to deliver and at home they should be too strong for this Tottenham side.
