Champions League Semi-Final 2nd Leg, Betting Blog

The Champions League Semi-Finals conclude on Tuesday and Wednesday night this week and we take a look at them from a betting angle.

Real Madrid have firmed in the betting from 19/10 to 11/10 after a 2-1 away win over Bayern Munich last week.  Liverpool have also shortened from 22/10 to 15/10 after their 5-2 home win over Roma and Bayern Munich are on offer at 6/1 with Roma the rank outsiders at 25/1 – click here for outright betting.

TUESDAY

Real Madrid put themselves in pole position to make the finals with a 2-1 victory in Germany and they now play at home where they have won 3, drawn 1 and lost 1 of their 5 matches in Europe this season.  Their quarter-final clash against Juventus will ensure they have no complacency heading into this fixture as they led 3-0 after the 1st leg and required a late penalty from Ronaldo to progress despite losing 3-1 at home to the Italian giants.  Bayern Munich have been strong on the road in Europe this season and they beat Sevilla 2-1 in their quarter-final and Besiktas 3-1 in the last 16.  They also won 2 of their 3 group matches on the road, only losing to PSG.

Bayern Munich are going to be forced to attack in the effort to get the 2 goals they require to have any chance of progressing and I think that will leave them open at the back for Real Madrid counter-attack and with the quality they have in their line-up I am more than happy to take 11/10 that they win the match.

WEDNESDAY

Roma are 8/1 shots to progress to the final of the Champions League after a 5-2 away defeat to Liverpool in the 1st leg.  That price would have been a whole lot bigger were it not for 2 late Roma goals which means they go into this fixture requiring at least a 3-0 or a 4-1 victory to progress, something they achieved at home against Barcelona in the quarter-finals.  Roma are undefeated at home in Europe this season with 4 wins and a draw and they have yet to concede a goal.

Liverpool took a 3-0 lead into their quarter-final 2nd leg with Manchester City and they managed to beat City 2-1 on the road to progress 5-1 on aggregate.  They hold a similar margin this time round but their 2 away goals conceded do give their opponents more of a chance.  They are unbeaten at home and away in the Championships League this season and on the road they have won 3 and drawn 2.

Roma certainly have an uphill task if they wish to progress but they showed against Barcelona what they are capable of and they really are a very strong side at home.  I expect Liverpool to play positive football and to look for goals to pile the pressure on their opponents but at the end of the day while I am not certain that they can progress to the final, I do think Roma will win the match.
