Chiefs v Lions, Super Rugby Preview

The World Sports Betting sponsored Lions take on the Chiefs in New Zealand on Friday morning South Africa time and they will be desperate for a victory to stay in contention in a tight Conference.

The Crusaders are currently 6/10 favourites for the Tournament ahead of the Hurricanes at 11/2 and you can get 14/1 and better the field.  The Lions are currently 28/10 second favourites for the South African Conference where the betting ranges from the Bulls at 5/2 to the Sharks at 11/2 – click here for outright betting.

The Chiefs started the season really badly with 4 successive defeats, but a draw at home to the Hurricanes signalled a change in fortune and they have since run off 3 successive wins including beating the Blues 33-29 last week.  In 4 home games this season, they have lost 2, drawn 1 and won 1 and Chiefs home games have averaged 52 points each.

The Lions have won 4 and lost 4 of their 8 matches and last week were beaten 31-20 by the Brumbies in Canberra.  That loss came a week after a humiliating 42-5 defeat to the Sharks at home.  The Lions have a 50% record on the road with 2 wins and 2 defeats this season and their away games have averaged 47 points each.

The Lions and Chiefs last met in Hamilton in 2016 with the Lions winning 36-32 prior to that the Chiefs had won all 8 matches between the sides in New Zealand.

Chiefs 4/10

Draw 30/1

Lions 22/10

Chiefs -7.5 at 9/10

Lions +7.5 at 9/10

Suggested bet:  Handicap, Lions +7.5 at 9/10

The Lions have been battling for form, but they will be encouraged by Chiefs team news and with some serious fire power on the bench they can finish this game strong and possibly even win the match, but hopefully at the very least beat the handicap.
