England v Australia, International Rugby Preview

England take on Australia at Twickenham on Saturday in what looks the pick of the weekends encounters.

England were admittedly not at full strength last week against Japan but they would have been surprised to have to come from behind at the break to win 35-15 with the Japanese comfortably delivering for those who backed them on the (+30.5) handicap.  The English had previously been edged 16-15 by New Zealand at Twickenham and the week before that they had beaten South Africa 12-11 in a low scoring affair.  England beat Wales at home in the Six Nations but lost to Ireland at Twickenham.

Australia were too strong for Italy last week where they won 26-7 after absorbing early pressure. They were previously beaten by 3 points in a low scoring encounter in Wales and prior to getting to Europe they lost a Bledisloe game 37-22 to New Zealand in Japan.  Australia have won only 2 of their last 8 away test matches.

England hold a good recent record over Australia at home, winning 4 of the last 5, including the last encounter 30-6  last year and in 2016 they won by 16 points.

England 3/10

Draw 22/1

Australia 28/10

England -8.5 at 9/10

Australia +8.5 at 9/10

Suggested bet:  Handicap, England (-8.5) at 9/10.

Australia look like a team battling to find a rhythm and the score line probably flatters them in the game against Italy.  England showed against New Zealand that they are a powerful force and having been able to rest key players last week I expect them to pull clear against the Australians.
