EPL Betting Preview, Sunday 7th May

There are two English Premier League matches to look forward to on Sunday with the big one being Arsenal hosting Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium.

Liverpool v Southampton – click here to bet

Liverpool took a big step towards a top 4 finish when they beat Watford 1-0 away from home on Monday night.  They go into this weekend in 3rd spot on the log but with Manchester City and Manchester United breathing down their necks.  Liverpool lost their most recent home game 2-1 to Crystal Palace but prior to that had taken 14 points from the six outings at Anfield.  Both teams have managed to score in 7 of the last 8 Liverpool home games.

Southampton are sitting mid-table on 41 points and are assured of English Premier League football next season.  They have only taken 1 point from the last 3 games, most recently drawing 0-0 with Hull City at St. Marys.  Their away form has been something of a mixed bag with 3 wins and 3 losses in their last 6 and Southampton have managed to score at least 1 goal in their last 6 road trips.

Liverpool 6/10

Suggested bet:  Matchbet + Totals:  Over 2.5 goals and Liverpool to win at 21/20.

This is such a crucial game for Liverpool that I don’t see them slipping up.  They do tend to concede goals at home though and I think we will get 3 or more in the game with a Liverpool victory.

Arsenal need to win this game if they are to stay alive in the race for a top 4 finish.  They currently sit 6th on the log, 5 points behind Manchester United and 6 points behind 4th place City who play on Saturday.  The Gunners are coming off a 2-0 away loss at Spurs but they have taken 10 points from the last 12 on offer at home and have kept a clean sheet in 3 of their last 4 at the Emirates.

Manchester United were in action in midweek in the Europa League where they got a valuable 1-0 away victory against Celta Vigo in the first leg clash.  They have not lost a league game since late October but have drawn 5 of their last 9 matches and it is that high draw percentage which has cost them a shot at the title.  Their most recent away match was a goalless draw at Manchester City and that broke a run of 4 successive Manchester United away wins during which time they scored at least 2 goals in each game.

Arsenal 19/20

Manchester United 59/20

Suggested Bet: Arsenal win at 19/20.

United will almost certainly adopt a defensive approach but Arsenal should be able to break down a side that could opt to rest a number of key players.  The Gunners won this fixture 3-0 last season and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a similar score line.
