EPL Preview, 2 January

There are 6 English Premier League fixtures taking place on Wednesday and we take a look at them from a betting angle.

Bournemouth v Watfordclick here for match odds

Bournemouth went down 4-1 at Man United in their last start and they have slipped to 12th on the table after 4 defeats in 5 matches. They have won 50% of their home games including 2 of their last 3. Watford are 9th on the log and are coming off a 1-1 draw at home to Newcastle. The beat West Ham 2-0 in their last away start but have generally battled on the road with 3 wins from 9 matches.

Suggested Bet: Watford win at 33/20

This is not a game I will be getting heavily involved in but based on what I have seen of late an inconsistent Watford side can win this.

Chelsea v Southamptonclick here to bet

Chelsea are 4th on the log after winning 4 of their last 5 starts including a 1-0 win at Palace last time out. They have only lost once at home but that was in their last home match where Leicester dented their title ambitions with a 1-0 win. Chelsea has won their last 7 matches against Southampton. The Saints sit 17th on the table after 2 successive defeats, the last of which was to Manchester City 1-3 at home.

Suggested Bet: Both Team to Score YES at 19/20

Southampton are capable of finding the net and this bet would have arrived in their last 4 matches.

Huddersfield v Burnleyclick here to bet

Huddersfield are bottom of the table and losing touch with the teams above them after 7 successive losses. They have lost their last 3 home matches to Southampton, Newcastle and Brighton. Burnley occupy the last of the relegation spots in 18th and they broke a run of 3 successive defeats when they beat West Ham 2-0 at home last time out. Huddersfield have only won once at home this season and Burnley only once on the road.

Suggested Bet: Burnley win at 3/1

I am a bit surprised to be getting this price given how poor Huddersfield have looked and I expect the visitors to deal another hammer blow to the home team.

West Ham v Brightonclick here to bet

West Ham are 11th on the log but have been disappointing over the festive season losing at home to Watford and away at Burnley either side of an away win over Southampton. Brighton are 13th on the table and are coming off a home win over Everton. They have lost their last 2 away matches and 4 of their last 5 EPL games have delivered for under 2.5 goal backers.

Suggested Bet: West Ham win at 19/20

The Hammers will win this if they play to potential against a Brighton side that battles away from home.

Wolves v Crystal Palaceclick here to bet

Wolves are up to 7th on the table after a stunning 3-1 win at Spurs last time out. They started 8/1 to win that game and if they can sort out their consistency they are capable of challenging for a top 6 spot. Palace are 14th on the log and have only taken 1 point from their last 2 matches, both of which were at home. They have lost 6 of their 10 away matches.

Suggested Bet: Wolves win at 1/1

Wolves have won 2 of their last 3 home games and the defeat came against Liverpool so was to be expected. They should be too strong for Palace.

Newcastle v Manchester Unitedclick here to bet

Newcastle are 15th on the table but without a win in their last 3 matches. The drew 1-1 away at Watford in their last start and at home they have only taken 7 out of a possible 30 points. United are 6th on the table have won all 3 matches with some comfort since the departure of Mourinho. They beat Bournemouth 4-1 at home last time out and their last away start was a 5-1 win at Cardiff.

Suggested Bet: Handicap, Newcastle +1 at 27/20

United are playing with more freedom since Mourinho departed but they haven’t really played any team of significance. Newcastle are not exactly top 6 but I feel the bookies may be giving United too much credit, too early.
