EPL Preview, Saturday 20 April

We take a look at the 6 English Premier League matches taking place on Saturday and suggest a bet in each.

Manchester City v Tottenham click here to bet

Manchester City were dramatically dumped out of the Champions League in the quarter-finals in midweek when they beat Tottenham at home, but went out on the away goals rule.  That means their focus returns to the League where they currently trail Liverpool by 2 points, but with a game in hand.  City have won their last 9 successive League games.

Tottenham sit one position behind them in 3rd on the log having won their last 2 games at home to Huddersfield and Crystal Palace.  Tottenham’s recent away record is poor though and they have lost 4 on the trot.

City made short work of this fixture last season winning 4-1

Suggested Bet:  Handicap, Manchester City (-1) at 7/10

I expect City to be fired up for this and given Tottenham’s recent troubles on their travels I think they will win by more than a goal.

Bournemouth v Fulham – click here to bet

Bournemouth are 12th on the log and broke a 3 match run without a victory when they beat Brighton 5-0 on the road in their last start.  Their recent home form has been poor and they have taken just 2 points from the last 12 they have played for.

Fulham are guaranteed to be relegated, but they did get a surprise win last time out winning 2-0 at home to Everton.  Their away form is dismal and they have yet to win on the road this season.

Bournemouth won the reverse fixture 3-0

Suggested Bet:  First-half, Total Goals Over 1.5 at 12/10

Neither of these teams have much to play for and I am expecting an open game and looking for 2 goals or more before the break.

Huddersfield v Watfordclick here to bet

Huddersfield are guaranteed to finish bottom of the log having only won 3 matches all season.  Their last home game was a 4-1 defeat to Leicester and they are 6 points behind second from bottom Fulham on the table.

Watford are 10th on the log having lost 3 of their last 4 games all of which has come against Top 6 opposition.  Watford have battled on the road a bit this season winning just 5 of 17 and losing their last 3.

Watford won the reverse fixture 3-0 earlier this season.

Suggested Bet:  Watford win at 17/20

Watford’s recent record doesn’t look great, but they have played against top teams and they should be too strong for Huddersfield.

West Ham v Leicester – click here to bet

West Ham have slipped to 11th on the table after 4 losses in their last 5 starts, most recently putting up a good fight in going down 2-1 away to Manchester United.  West Ham have won just under 50% of their home games this season.

Leicester are 7th on the table and had a 4 match winning streak ended when they went down 1-0 at home to Newcastle last time out.  Their last 2 away games have been wins over Huddersfield and Burnley

Suggested Bet:  The draw at 49/20

Two of the last three matches between these sides has ended level.

Wolves v Brightonclick here to bet

Wolves are 8th on the table, but they have lost 2 of their last 3 games, most recently going down 3-1 away to Southampton.  Their last home game was a 2-1 win over Manchester United though and they have won 50% of their home games this season, only dropping 2 points in the last 5 home games they have played.

Brighton have won 4 matches in a row and are currently 17th, just 2 points ahead of Cardiff who occupy the final relegation position.  Their last game was a 2-0 home defeat to Cardiff and their last away game was a 3-0 loss at Chelsea.

Brighton beat Wolves 1-0 in the reverse fixture.

Suggested Bet:  Wolves win at 15/20

Brighton seem to have hit a bad patch at just the wrong time and Wolves can continue their impressive return to the EPL.

Newcastle v Southamptonclick here to bet

15th placed Newcastle host 16th placed Southampton and both teams look pretty much assured of EPL football next season.  Newcastle beat Leicester 1-0 away last time out and their recent home form has been good winning 4 of their last 5.

Southampton beat Wolves 3-1 at home in their last start and while their recent away record doesn’t look impressive, 3 defeats in their last 4 were all against top 6 opposition.

Suggested Bet:  Southampton win at 43/20

The reverse fixture was drawn and this should be another close game, but I fancy that Southampton can sneak an away win against a Newcastle United that probably feel the job of survival is now done.
