Europa League Last 16 Preview 14 March

We take a look at the two second leg Europa League last 16 matches that feature English Premier League sides Chelsea and Arsenal and suggest a bet in each.

Let’s start with a quick look at the outright betting for this Tournament where Chelsea are now the favourites at 28/10 ahead of Napoli at 33/10.  Arsenal are still on offer at 8/1 despite the fact that they trail from their first leg encounter and you can get 10/1 and better the balance – click here for outright betting.

Dynamo Kiev v Chelseaclick here to bet

Chelsea were too strong in the first leg winning 3-0 at home and Dynamo Kiev have a mountain to climb if they are to progress to the quarter-finals.  They won their previous round 3-2 on aggregate over Olympiacos Piraeus, winning their home leg 1-0.

Chelsea remain undefeated in the Europa League and in their last 32 match they drew their away fixture 2-2 at MOL VIDI.  Over 2.5 goals would have arrived in Chelsea’s last 5 Europa League matches.

Suggested bet:  The draw at 5/2

Chelsea are worthy favourites for the match but with a lead of 3-0 going into this encounter I expect they will be quite content to shut their opponents down and the draw looks a big runner.

Arsenal v Rennes – click here to bet

Arsenal were stunned 3-1 away at Rennes in the first leg encounter and considering they started the game as 9/10 favourites this was certainly an upset.  They now return home where they have won 3 of their 4 matches in the Europa League this season, including beating BATE 3-0 in the last round and they also had to come from behind to progress.  Domestically they will be buoyed by 2-0 win over Manchester United on the weekend.

Rennes have played in some high scoring matches of late with the last 3 games in the Europa League all having 4 goals or more in them.  Their last away game was a 3-1 win over Real Betis in the last 32 and they have won 2 and lost 2 of their 4 away games in this League.

Suggested bet:  Over 3.5 goals at 12/10

Arsenal have no choice but to push forward here and that could leave them open at the back.  This should be a very entertaining fixture and I expect it to follow the trend of recent Rennes matches and be high scoring.
