Europa League Matchday 4 Preview, 8th November

Matchday 4 of the Europa League takes place on Thursday and we take a look at selected matches including Arsenal’s home game against Sporting and Chelsea’s visit to BATE.

BATE v Chelsea

Chelsea remain top of Group L having won all 3 their matches so far, most recently seeing off BATE 3-1 at Stamford Bridge. The 3 other teams in this quartet all have 3 points so Chelsea are closing in on qualification which will allow them to focus on the English Premier League title race until the knockout rounds begin. Chelsea haven’t really hit the same heights we have seen in the Premier League and in their first 2 matches they did just enough to win 1-0 away at PAOK and 1-0 at home to MOL Vidi.

BATE still have 3 points to their name courtesy of a 2-0 win at MOL Vidi on Matchday 1. They were thrashed 4-1 at home by PAOK on Matchday 2 and their goal difference is currently the worst in this group.

BATE 13/2

Draw 73/20

Chelsea 4/10

Suggested bet: Match result and total goals, Chelsea and over 2.5 at 9/10

Much depends on how strong a side Chelsea opt to field but we fancy they will be up to the job and Chelsea to win a game of 3 goals or more in total is the pick.

Spartak Moscow v Rangers

Spartak parted company with their coach just before the trip to Glasgow on Matchday 3 so in those circumstances they will have been happy enough to come away with a 0-0 draw. They lost 2-0 at Rapid Vienna first time out and then played out a 2-2 draw with Villarreal on Matchday 2. Although they have yet to win they are still very much in contention as only 3 points separate the 4 teams in Group G.

The 0-0 draw with Spartak cost Rangers top spot in this group although they have the same number of points as the new leaders Villarreal. Rangers have 5 points, 2 more than third placed Rapid Vienna and 3 more than their opponents here and they remain unbeaten in the group having picked up an excellent 2-2 draw at Villarreal followed by a 3-1 win at home to Rapid Vienna.

Spartak Moscow 23/20

Draw 24/10

Rangers 23/10

Note: Prices correct at the time of posting but are subject to change

Suggested bet:  Home win at 23/20

This is bordering on a must win game for Spartak and after picking up a point in Glasgow they will fancy their chances of going one better with home advantage.

Arsenal v Sporting

The Gunners were 1-0 winners when the teams met in Lisbon on Matchday 3 and they are now within touching distance of sealing their place in the knockout rounds. Arsenal top Group E, 3 points clear of Sporting with Vorskla Poltava on 3 points and Qarabag have yet to open their account.

Arsenal started their campaign with a 4-2 home win over Vorskla Poltava. They followed up with a 3-0 win at Qarabag and they are in a rich vein of form right now.

Sporting began with a 2-0 home win over Qarabag and followed up with a 2-1 victory at Vorskla Poltava before the defeat to Arsenal last time out.

Arsenal 3/10

Draw 17/4

Sporting 33/4

Note: Prices correct at the time of posting but are subject to change

Suggested bet: HT/FT Arsenal/Arsenal at 17/20

Arsenal have been a better side in the second half than they have in the first this season but they ought to have too much for Sporting and perhaps this is an opportunity to make a faster start than we have become accustomed to.

Celtic v RB Leipzig

Salzburg remain top of Group B with 9 points from 3 matches whilst Leipzig have 6, Celtic have 3 and Rosenborg have yet to open their account.

Celtic lost 2-0 away to Leipzig on Matchday 3, a second successive defeat in this group. They had started with a 1-0 win over Rosenborg in Glasgow but then went down 3-1 at Salzburg and another defeat here would leave them with plenty to do to reach the knockout rounds.

Leipzig have recovered well from a 3-2 defeat at home to Salzburg in their opening group match. They repaired some of that damage with a 3-1 win away to Rosenborg and moved into second spot with the win over Celtic last time out.

Celtic 57/20

Draw 53/20

Leipzig 9/10

Suggested bet: Both teams to score? (yes) at 13/20

Leipzig are a very useful side but given Celtic need to make the most of this home game we fancy both sides will find the net.
