Europa League Preview, Thursday 14 February

The Europa League knock-out stages commence on Thursday and we take a look at the two matches featuring English Premier League sides Arsenal and Chelsea.

BATE v Arsenal – click here to bet

BATE finished the Group stages with two victories to book their spot in the last 32.  They weren’t overly impressive at home, winning 1 game and losing 2 and they scored 3 goals and conceded 5 at home.  Arsenal came through their Group undefeated and they managed to win all 3 of their away games, scoring 7 goals without conceding.  The best they can hope for locally is a top 4 finish in the EPL so they will be very keen to have a full go at the Europa.

These sides met in the 2017/2018 season with Arsenal winning 6-0 at home and 4-2 on the road.

Suggested bet:  Over 3.5 goals at 31/20

I expect Arsenal to throw caution to the wind here and I think we are in for another high scoring game along the lines of what we saw between the 2 sides last season where there were 6 goals in each of their matches

Malmo v Chelseaclick here to bet

Malmo were undefeated in their home matches in the Group stages, drawing 2 and winning 1.  The win was particularly impressive as it came at home to Besiktas 2-0.  Chelsea will have to lift themselves after getting hammered 6-0 by Manchester City in the EPL.  Their Europa form is sound though with 5 wins and a draw in the Group stages and their only points dropped was on the road.  There is no head-to-head history between these sides.

Suggested bet:  Both teams to score, YES, at 17/20

Chelsea are worthy favourites but play on the road I expect them to concede and I like the prospect that both teams will score in this one.
