Chelsea and Arsenal will be looking to justify their positions at the top of the betting boards when they are in action in the Europa League semi-finals on Thursday night. We take a look at both games from a betting angle.
Chelsea v Eintracht Frankfurt – click here to bet
Chelsea are currently the 9/10 favourites to lift the Cup – click here for outright betting and they would have been satisfied with the 1-1 draw away at Frankfurt in the 1st leg. They are now playing at Stamford Bridge where they have won all 6 of their games in Europe this season including beating Slavia Prague 4-3 in their quarter-final. The majority of their home games have been won by more than a goal.
Frankfurt did beat Inter Milan on the road in their last 16 match, but they lost 4-2 to Benfica away from home in their quarter-final. They are not without hope, but beating Chelsea on the road is certainly a massive ask.
Suggested bet: Handicap, Chelsea (-1) at 1/1
Chelsea have had some comfortable victories at home this season and with Frankfurt needing to press forward due to conceding the away goal, I think that Chelsea will have plenty of opportunities to score. They have been on a poor run domestically, but they have now moved into 3rd thanks to their opponents slipping up and I think their confidence will be high heading into this fixture.
Valencia v Arsenal – click here to bet
Valencia have won all 3 home games in the Europa League since joining from the Champions League in the last 32. In their quarter-final they beat Villarreal 2-0 for a comfortable 5-1 aggregate victory and they have also seen off Krasnodar 2-1 and Celtic 1-0.
Arsenal (15/8 to win the competition) put themselves in a prime position to progress to the final with a 3-1 home win over Valencia last week. The Gunners are struggling domestically but there is no doubt all eyes are on winning this competition. Arsenal won their last away game in the quarter-final at Napoli 1-0, but they did lose the previous two road trips to Rennes and BATE.
Suggested bet: Valencia win at 17/20
Valencia are going to come hard at Arsenal and I just don’t have faith in the way the Gunners are playing at the moment. They may well do enough to progress to the final, but I think Valencia can win the game.
