FA Cup 3rd Round Preview, 5th January

The big guns come out to play in the FA Cup 3rd Round and we take a look at selected fixtures on Saturday and suggest a few bets.

Manchester United v Readingclick here to bet

United have consolidated their 6th spot in the EPL thanks to four successive victories since the departure of Jose Mourinho as manager.  They will no doubt make a number of changes for this game but at the same time will be targeting the FA Cup as they are out of EPL contention.

Redding are battling towards the bottom of the Championship, currently sitting 23rd from 24 teams and they have only taken 2 points from the last 15 they have played for.

These sides met in the FA Cup 3rd Round, 2 years ago with United winning 4-0 at home.

Manchester United 1/10

Draw 33/4

Reading 23/1

Suggested bet:  Correct score, Manchester United 4-0 at 7/1.

This is not a game I will be looking to get too involved in so speculative play of a repeat score of the last time these sides met at Old Trafford.

Chelsea v Nottingham Forestclick here to bet

Chelsea are 4th in the Premier League after a disappointing goalless draw at home to Southampton on Wednesday night.  They are priced at 13/2 third favourites to win the FA cup – click here for outright FA Cup betting.

Nottingham Forest re 7th in the Championship and they broke a poor run of form with a victory over Leeds at home on New Year’s Day.

Chelsea 1/4

Draw 21/4

Nottingham Forest 11/1

Suggested bet: Handicap, Nottingham Forest (+2) at 23/20.

Chelsea won’t be at full strength for this game and Nottingham Forest look a side capable of causing them problems.

Blackpool v Arsenalclick here to bet

Blackpool currently sit 10th in League 1 but they are on a horror run of form that has seen them take just 1 point from the last 15 they have played for.  They beat Exeter 3-2 away in the 1st round of their FA Cup and then required extra time in a replay at home to beat the unknown Solihull Moors.

Arsenal beat Fulham 4-1 in the English Premier League on New Year’s Day and they currently sit 5th on the log.  Like many of the other top teams they will probably rest key players for this game but they do have a proud FA Cup tradition.

These sides met in the ELF Cup towards the back end of last year with Arsenal winning 2-1 at home.

Blackpool 10/1

Draw 5/1

Arsenal 1/4

Suggested bet:  Handicap, Blackpool (+2) at 11/10.

I expect Blackpool to give Arsenal some troubles and will back them to finish within 2 goals.
