FA Cup Betting Preview, Friday 16th February

The FA Cup has reached Round 5 and on Friday night there are two televised ties, Leicester’s meeting with Sheffield United and Chelsea’s home game against Hull.

Leicester v Sheffield United– click here to bet

Leicester have already knocked Sheffield United out of one cup competition this season with a 4-1 win away from home in the Carabao Cup back in August. Their FA Cup run so far comprises of a 5-1 win at Peterborough in the previous round and in the third round they needed a replay to get past Fleetwood, drawing 0-0 away from home before a 2-0 home win. Leicester’s mid table position in the Premier League should allow them to focus fully on a cup run and this competition is their only chance of silverware this season.

Sheffield United take on top flight opposition after getting the better of two Championship sides in the previous rounds. A 1-0 win at Ipswich and another 1-0 victory at home to Preston earned them this fifth round ticket. Although they are involved in the race to clinch a play off place in the Championship, they could be upset material if displaying their best form.

Leicester 11/20

Draw 31/10

Sheffield United 19/4

Suggested bet:  Total goals 2-3 at 19/20

Going on Premier League form 2-3 goals in total is a trend wirth following in Leicester’s matches and in what could be a tricky game we go with that outcome to arrive again.

Chelsea v Hull Cityclick here to bet

In the outright betting market to win the FA Cup Chelsea are trading as third favourites at 9/2 behind the Manchester clubs City (2/1 favourites) and United (4/1). Chelsea are not short of distractions, involved in the Champions League knockout rounds with a home game against Barcelona to come as well as the race to finish in the top 4 in the Premier League. After an alarming dip in form they did win a league game 3-0 at home to West Brom earlier this week.

Chelsea saw off Norwich of the Championship in the third round but it was hard work, drawing 0-0 away from home and winning the replay on spot kicks. In the fourth round it was far more straight forward as they ran out 3-0 winners at home to Newcastle.

Hull are finding it tough going in the Championship, currently hovering just above the relegation zone. Their cup run comprises of a 1-0 win at Blackburn and 2-1 home win over Nottingham Forest but this obviously represents a big step up in class.

Chelsea 2/9

Draw 11/2

Hull City 25/2

Note:  prices correct at the time of posting but are subject to change

Suggested bet:  Correct score, Chelsea to win 3-0 at 25/4

Chelsea may well ring the changes but Hull have other priorities and we take a speculative play in the correct score market and go with a 3-0 home win.
