France v Croatia World Cup 2018, Final Preview

France and Croatia meet at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on Sunday for the title of World Cup Champions and we take a look at the game and suggest a bet.

We are down to the final two teams in Russia 2018 and France who started the tournament at odds of 13/2 are 9/20 to lift the cup with Croatia priced at 18/10. Kylian Mpappe is the 9/10 market leader to win the Golden Ball for the top player and his main rival in this market is Luka Modric the tiny Croatian general – click here for all outright betting markets.

France withstood some early Belgium pressure before taking control of their quarter-final winning 1-0. They had previously beaten Uruguay 2-0 and Argentina 4-3 in a thriller where they came from 2-1 down to win. They topped their group courtesy of 2 wins over Australia and Peru and a goalless draw against Denmark a result that suited both teams at that time. They have talent all around the park and the speed of Mpappe will be a weapon that is giving Croatia sleepless nights.

Croatia have got to the final the hard way with all 3 of their knockout games going to extra time. They have also had to come from a goal down in each of them and in their quarter-final they trailed to an early England goal before levelling matters in the 2nd half eventually getting the winner in extra time. They needed penalties to beat Russia in the quarters and Denmark in the last 16.

France and Croatia have not met since 2011 when they drew a friendly international 0-0.

France 19/20

Draw 43/20

Croatia 7/2

Suggested bet:  The draw (90 minutes) at 43/20.

World Cup finals tend to be low scoring affairs and the last 4 finals have had 2 goals or less in them suggesting the 4/10 on offer about under 2.5 goals in the 90 minutes is justified. I am concerned that the additional 90 minutes that Croatia have played in the knockout stages will find them out but I am once again rowing in with the draw as there really has not been much between any of the teams in the knockout stages.
