Ireland v Argentina, International Rugby Preview

Ireland play Argentina at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Saturday and the Irish are set to start firm favourites.

Ireland started 28 point favourites against Italy in Chicago last week but had few problems seeing off the handicap, winning 54-7.  They only lost 1 match in 2018 and that was away to Australia in mid-year, however, they managed to recover from that and win the series 2-1.  In last year’s November Internationals they beat South Africa by 35 points and also saw off Argentina by 9.

Argentina have on the face of it had a disappointing year with two victories but they did show some encouraging signs in the Rugby Championship and beat Australia away and South Africa at home.  Their last game was a 45-34 home defeat to Australia, a game in which they surrendered a massive lead.

Argentina have only won 1 of their last 7 matches against Ireland but that was in the World Cup Quarter-Final in 2015 and they have never beaten Ireland in Ireland, with the Irish winning by 9 points last year in Dublin.

Ireland 1/11

Draw 40/1

Argentina 7/1

Ireland -16.5 at 9/10

Argentina +16.5 at 9/10

Suggested bet:  Half-time Handicap, Ireland (-8.5) at 9/10.

I like the Irish this weekend and my only choice was whether to back them on the full-time or half-time handicap.  I have slight preference for the latter and will look for them to lead by 9 points or more at the break.
