Italy v Uruguay International friendly Preview

Our featured international friendly on Wednesday night sees Italy clash with Uruguay in Nice.

Italy have a World Cup qualifier against Liechtenstein coming up on Sunday and whilst this looks  far tougher test than they are likely to presented with at the weekend, World Cup qualification is the top priority. Right now the Italian’s are locked in a ding dong battle with Spain for European Group G’s automatic qualification spot for Russia 2018 where they have four wins and one draw (with Spain) to show for their efforts so far. The key game comes in Spain in September which could determine whether Italy will go through as a group winner or face running the gauntlet of the play offs. In recent high profile friendly matches Italy won 2-1 against the Netherlands in March and last year they drew 0-0 with Germany and lost 3-1 at home to France.

Uruguay’s recent form will be of concern to their coach. Although they remain in the top five in World Cup qualifying from South America they have lost their three most recent matches in that group, going down 3-1 in Chile and 2-1 in Peru either side of a 4-1 home defeat to Brazil. They were also beaten 3-1 by Ireland in a friendly international staged in June and they could certainly use a boost before their qualifiers resume again at the end of August.

Bet: Total goals 2-3 at 9/10

Italy need to keep their eye on the ball with a WC qualifier coming up but there could be a end of season feel to how Uruguay approach this game. Goals could still be on the cards but not a hat full and we side with 2-3 in total regardless of the outcome of the game.
