The IRB 7’s is moving into the home stretch and this weekend the action is in London and we take a look at the Tournament from a betting angle.
With two Tournaments to play the United States have a 3 point lead over Fiji in the outright standings with New Zealand still in with a long shot chance 15 points behind the States. Defending Champions the Blitzboks have found their form too late, winning two of the last 3 events, but they are too far behind to challenge.
In last year’s 7’s Fiji beat South Africa to win the title and set up a grandstand finish in France where the Blitzboks somehow managed to secure the title. Prior to the Fiji win Scotland had won it twice in a row and the United States also won this Tournament in 2015. New Zealand haven’t appeared in a final here since 2014 when they beat Australia
London 7’s betting
South Africa 22/10
New Zealand 7/2
100/1 and better the balance
Let us take a look at this week’s Pools:
South Africa, Argentina, Canada, Japan
Argentina and Canada are capable of getting some cheek on their day, but South Africa should cruise to victory in this pool.
Fiji, Samoa, France, Kenya
This is an interesting pool as both Samoa and France have been in some good form of late with France making two of the last three finals. Can’t look past Fiji winning the pool, but the battle for second should be interesting and is tough to call, if anything though I would be leaning towards Samoa.
England, New Zealand, Scotland, Ireland
Scotland have an excellent record in this event, but they have really had a poor season and it is hard to see them troubling England and New Zealand for the top 2 spots. The game between the top 2 sides should be a cracker and it is difficult to call.
United States, Australia, Wales, Spain
The United States should win this with Australia progressing behind them and it is hard to see either Wales or Spain playing a role.
Suggested Bet: USA to win at 11/2
Fiji are worthy favourites, but I think there may be some value in the USA who have showed nothing to suggest that they should be behind South Africa and New Zealand in the betting. They are in pole position for the series title and will be pumped up for this one.
There will be match betting and in-running betting on each and every game and it is no surprise that 7’s is becoming a favourite of sports punters
