New Zealand v South Africa, Rugby Championship Preview

New Zealand will be looking to take one step closer to another Rugby Championship Title when they host South Africa in Wellington on Saturday and we take a look at the game from a betting angle.

Let’s start with a look at the outright betting where New Zealand are now unbackable at 1/200 to win the Championship and if you do fancy the Springboks for something of a rugby miracle you can get 50/1 about their chances.  New Zealand are now as short as 1/6 to win all 6 of their matches and Australia are 9/10 in the betting without New Zealand with the Springboks at 12/10 and Argentina 8/1 – click here for outright betting.

New Zealand were given a fairly stern challenge by Argentina last week but they drew clear late to win by 22 which did mean that Argentina won on the handicap which had been set at 27.5 points. They had previously beaten Australia, home and away, by 28 and 25 points and the depth within the squad means that a few injury worries are of no real concern to them.

The Springboks opened their campaign with a win against Argentina at home but they then lost to Argentina on the road and they failed to take advantage of the fact that Folau and Pocock were late injuries for Australia last week, losing by 5 in Brisbane despite dominating the first half and leading at the break.

The Boks have lost their last 8 matches in New Zealand and the last 2 have been by massive margins of 57 and 28 points respectively.

New Zealand 1/16

Draw 60/1

South Africa 10/1

New Zealand -22.5 at 9/10

South Africa +22.5 at 9/10

Suggested bet:  Handicap, New Zealand -22.5 at 9/10.

There is every chance that the Boks are able to stay in touch with New Zealand for much of the game but I think at some point the elastic will break and the home team will draw clear to win comfortably.
