New Zealand v Sri Lanka, 2nd ODI Preview

The second of three One Day Internationals between New Zealand and Sri Lanka takes place at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui on Saturday and after a high scoring game on this ground earlier in the week the Black Caps are 1-0 up in the series.

New Zealand won the series opener by 45 runs on Thursday. Martin Guptill top scored and earned the Man of the Match award with his innings of 138 in his sides bat first total of 371/7. Guptill hit 5 of New Zealand’s 14 maximums, Kane Williamson made 76 and at the end of the innings James Neesham smashed 47 off just 13 balls to put the hosts in control.

It was a daunting task for Sri Lanka but they kept themselves in the game with an opening stand of 119 and Kusal Perera came in at 3 to top score with 102. The asking rate began to climb and the middle to lower order provided only limited support for Perera and in the end Sri Lanka’s innings folded on 326 all out in 49 overs.
