Pro 14 Preview, Round 9

The Pro 14 continues this weekend and we take a look at the two games featuring South African teams, the Cheetahs and the Kings and suggest a bet in each.

Cheetahs v Benetton click here to bet

The Cheetahs are currently bottom of Conference A with just 1 win in their 7 matches.  Their last game was a disappointing 4 point home loss to Munster who were fielding a weakened side.  They had broken their duck the week before, beating the Cardiff Blues 21-10 in Bloemfontein.

Benetton are 5th in Conference B with 3 wins from their 7 matches and their last start was a 15-10 home defeat to Ulster and prior to that they were beaten by 28 points at home against Leinster.  Benetton are hard hit by International call-ups to the Italian side.

Last year Benetton hosted the Cheetahs and beat them 27-21.

Cheetahs 1/6

Draw 25/1

Benetton 4/1

Cheetahs -12.5 at 9/10

Benetton +12.5 at 9/10

Suggested bet:  Handicap, Cheetahs (-12.5) at 9/10.

The Cheetahs haven’t had many big wins in this competition in their one and a half years of playing it but this could be one as Benetton really do look thin on the ground as far as personnel goes.

Southern Kings v Connacht – click here to bet

The Southern Kings are playing at the NMMU Stadium where they will host Connacht on Sunday.  The Kings are bottom of Conference B with 1 win in 7 matches and they did push Leinster close, going down by 7 points at home in their last start.  They also lost by 7 points at home to the Scarlets in a high scoring encounter before that.

Connacht currently sit 5th in Conference A, 3 wins in their 7 games.  They beat the dragons 33-12 at home in their last start and prior to that were narrowly beaten by the Ospreys on the road.

Last season Connacht beat the Kings 32-10 at home.

Southern Kings 24/10

Draw 22/1

Connacht 1/3

Southern Kings +8.5 at 9/10

Connacht -8.5 at 9/10

Suggested bet:  Handicap, Southern Kings (+8.5) at 9/10.

Connacht are still able to field a decent side despite International call-ups but I have been impressed with the improvement of the Southern Kings and make them a good bet on the handicap.  I may even consider getting involved on the 24/10 that they win the match.
