The Pro 14 continues this weekend and we take a look at the two matches involving South African teams, the Kings and the Cheetahs.

Southern Kings v Scarlets – click here to bet

There has been a lot of betting movement on this game during the week after the handicap opened up with the Scarlets close to 20 point favourites only for bookmakers to realise they are not fielding a full strength team.

The Kings currently sit bottom of Conference B with 1 win from their 6 games and that win came at home against Glasgow.  The Scarlets are 4th in Conference B with 4 wins from their 6 matches and they have lost to Ulster and Connacht on the road this season.

The Scarlets beat the Kings 54-14 earlier in the season and last season they edged this fixture by 4 points in a high scoring match.

Betting

Southern Kings 5/2

Draw 25/1

Scarlets 3/10

Handicap:

Southern Kings +9.5 at 9/10

Scarlets -9.5 at 9/10

Suggested bet:  Handicap, Kings (+9.5) at 9/10

My focus will be on the points market in this game and I think we will see plenty of tries but for now a tentative play for the Kings to stay within the handicap.

Cheetahs v Cardiff Blues click here to bet

The Cheetahs are bottom of Conference A with just a draw to show from their 6 matches.  They are back from their latest excursion into Europe where they lost by 16 points to Edinburgh and by 3 points to the Cardiff Blues.  The Blues are 5th in Conference A with 3 wins from their 6 games and they have been involved in European competition these past two weeks.  Their most recent Pro 14 match was a 23-15 away win at the Dragons.

The Cheetahs beat the Blues 29-27 in Bloemfontein last year.

Betting

Cheetahs 7/10

Draw 20/1

Cardiff Blues 12/10

Handicap:

Cheetahs -2.5 at 9/10

Cardiff Blues +2.5 at 9/10

Suggested bet:  Cheetahs win at 7/10.

The Cheetahs have a lot going for them this week.  They pushed the Blues when playing away from home and their opponents have had a heavy schedule whereas they have been able to rest up and prepare for this game.  They always give a good account of themselves in Bloemfontein and I make a 7/10 my Pro 14 bet of the weekend.
