Pro 14, Round 8 Preview

We take a look at the two Pro 14 games featuring South African sides this weekend, the Kings and the Cheetahs and suggest a bet in each.

Southern Kings v Leinster– click here to bet

The Kings are at home to 8/10 tournament favourites, Leinster on Sunday and they will be looking to build on a strong showing against Scarlets last week where they eventually went down 34-41 having led deep into the match.  That result means that they are still bottom of Conference B with 1 win in their 7 games, level on points with the Dragons.

There were many who thought Benetton could give Leinster a run at home last week but Leinster were too strong, winning 31-3.  They are of course without the International players so a very different Leinster side will take to the field this week from the one that has done duty since the start of the season.  That being said, they were under-strength last week in Italy as well and they sit comfortably on top of Conference B with 6 wins from their 7 matches.

Last season the Kings hosted Leinster and it was the visitors who won 31-10.

Southern Kings 5/1

Draw 33/1

Leinster 1/8

Southern Kings +14.5 at 9/10

Leinster-14.5 at 9/10

Suggested bet:  Handicap, Kings (+14.5).

The Kings look to be a side which is improving and they have been competitive at home. Were this a full strength Leinster side I would see nothing other than a massive away win but I give the Kings a chance of victory here.

Cheetahs v Munsterclick here to bet

The Cheetahs bagged their first win of the campaign at home to the Cardiff Blues last weekend despite not adding to their first-half tally of 21 points.  Many of their players were also in action in midweek when they beat South West Districts to retain their spot in the Currie Cup.  This will be the Cheetah’s 4th home match and their record includes 1 victory, a draw and a heavy defeat which came against Glasgow.

Munster were beaten 30-22 away at Leinster last week and they currently sit 3rd in Conference A with 4 wins from their 7 games.  All 3 of their losses have come on the road.

The Cheetahs lost this fixture by 2 points last season.

Cheetahs 12/10

Munster 7/10

Cheetahs +2.5 at 9/10

Munster-2.5 at 9/10

Suggested bet:  Cheetahs win at 12/10.

Munster are playing this game with an absolute skeleton squad and their depth will be sorely tested against a Cheetahs team who are no world beaters but are hard to beat at home on their day.
