Pro 14, Week 2 Preview

349

South African sides, the Kings and the Cheetahs will be looking for an improved showing in week 2 of the Pro 14 and we take a look at the two games they are involved in from a betting angle.

Dragons v Kings – click here to bet

The Dragons were disappointing in their first outing of the season losing 17-21 at home to Benetton last week.  They finished second last in Conference B last season with only the Kings below them and they only managed to win 2 games all season.

The Kings looked pretty poor last week going down 32-16 away at Zebre and a sobering stat is that the 16 points they scored is the most points they have scored in Europe since they joined the competition last season.

The Dragons beat the Kings 29-13 at home last season but the Kings did get their only victory of the season at home to the Dragons, winning 45-13.

Betting

Dragons 1/14

Draw 40/1

Kings 7/1

Handicap:

Dragons -17.5 at 9/10

Kings +17.5 at 9/10

Suggested bet:  Handicap, Kings (+17.5) at 9/10.

Kings are clearly not in the league of most of the teams they are going to be playing against but the Dragons are a side that also look like they are in for another long, hard season and while it is a tentative call I think the Kings can beat the handicap.

Ospreys v Cheetahsclick here to bet

The Ospreys were quite impressive last week in beating Edinburgh 17-13 at home and will be looking to build on that positive start when they welcome the Cheetahs.  The Cheetahs are dividing resources between the Pro 14 and the Currie Cup and while their focus is on the Pro 14 things didn’t start well with a 38-0 away loss to Munster in wet conditions last week.

The Cheetahs only just lost to the Ospreys last season, going down 27-26 and the Cheetahs beat the Ospreys in Bloemfontein 44-25.

Betting

Ospreys 1/25

Draw 40/1

Cheetahs 9/1

Handicap:

Ospreys -21.5 at 9/10

Cheetahs +21.5 at 9/10

Suggested bet:  Handicap, Cheetahs (+21.5) at 9/10.

This is once again not a very confident call as there hasn’t been much to like about the Cheetahs in the last couple of weeks of Currie Cup and Pro 14 action but I do think they can improve on last week’s showing and the Ospreys are a bit vulnerable at home on occasions.
