PSL, 13 and 14 January Betting Preview

There are 3 live ABSA Premiership Matches taking place this weekend and we take a look at all of them from a betting angle.

Mamelodi Sundowns v Orlando Piratesclick here to bet

The high profile match of the weekend sees log leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns, taking on 5th placed Orlando Pirates.

Sundowns bounced back from successive losses to beat Ajax 2-1 away last time out and they now sit 4 points clear at the top of the table.  Their last home match was a 1-0 defeat to Cape Town City, their 4th defeat at home to go with their 3 victories this season.

Pirates beat Baroka 3-1 at home last weekend to break a 3 match run without a victory.  They have only won 1 out of 7 matches on the road this season and 5 of the 7 Pirates home matches have had 2 goals or less in them.

Sundowns beat Pirates 3-1 away earlier in the season and they also beat them 2-0 in this fixture last season.

Mamelodi Sundowns 15/20

Draw 9/4

Orlando Pirates 17/4

Suggested bet:  Over 2.5 goals at 12/10.

Sundowns are rightly favoured to win but they are a bit too short for my liking given they have put in some indifferent performances of late.  5 of their 7 home matches have delivered for over 2.5 goal backers and that is enough to see me moving in at current odds.

Kaizer Chiefs v Polokwane Cityclick here to bet

Kaizer Chiefs sit 4th on the table and they have taken 7 points from the last 9 they have played for in the PSL.  Their last game was a goalless draw away at SuperSport, their 4th goalless draw in 8 matches and the 8th consecutive game they have played in where there have been 2 goals or less in the match.  Chiefs last home match was a 1-0 win over Ajax and that was their first home win of the season and that came in their 7th home match.

Polokwane are up to 11th on the table after a run which has seen them take 7 points from the last 9 they have played for and they are coming off back-to-back victories away at Chippa and at home to Mamelodi Sundowns.  The win over Sundowns was their first home win of the season.  Polokwane are unbeaten in their last 3 away matches with 2 wins and a draw and 2 of those games have delivered 4 goals or more.

These sides met at Polokwane earlier in the season and drew 0-0 and Chiefs won this fixture 3-2 last season.

Kaizer Chiefs 9/10

Draw 22/10

Polokwane City 13/4

Suggested bet:  Over 2.5 goals at 13/10.

I was impressed with Polokwane against Sundowns and looking at their recent away form this game could just buck the trend of low scoring Chiefs matches.

Golden Arrows v SuperSport United – click here to bet

Sunday’s live match sees Golden Arrows host SuperSport United and with both teams in free fall we take a look at the betting angle.

Arrows are 10th on the table despite not winning a game in their last 10 League matches during which time they have had 6 draws and 4 losses.  Their most recent match was a 2-1 defeat at Bloem Celtic last weekend and they have drawn 4 and lost 1 of their last 5 home matches.

SuperSport are a point behind them in 12th on the table but with 3 games in hand over Arrows.  They have been battling though in their last 7 matches where they have lost 3 and drawn 4, most recently going down 2-0 away to Wits in midweek.  They haven’t won in 5 road trips taking just 2 points from a possible 15 and in that time they have only scored 2 goals while conceding 7.

SuperSport beat Arrows 3-0 at home earlier in the season and the sides played to a 1-1 draw in this fixture last season.

Golden Arrows 17/10

Draw 39/20

SuperSport United 17/10

Suggested bet:  The draw at 39/20.

It is hard to see much in this game between two struggling sides and both of them are playing in such a high percentage of draws that I am drawn to the odds of just under 2/1 that we get a stalemate.
