PSL Preview, 5 and 6 January

We take a look at the 4 live PSL matches taking place this weekend and suggest a bet in each.

Kaizer Chiefs v Mamelodi Sundownsclick here to bet

This is without doubt the clash of the weekend and both sides will be desperate to start 2019 on a positive note.

Chiefs are currently 6th on the table, 9 points behind leaders Bidvest Wits and they have only won 2 of the last 7 PSL matches they have played including their most recent result of a 1-0 win over SuperSport United at home.  Chiefs home games have averaged 1.9 goals each and over 2.5 goal backers would have only collected in 2 of their 7 matches.

Sundowns are a point ahead of Wits in 5th place but they have 3 games in hand and have yet to lose in the League this season.  They were disappointing in their last start drawing 0-0 at home to Baroka and their match against Chiefs at home earlier this season they played out to a 1-1 draw.  Sundowns away games have averaged 2.2 goals each with 33% of their games reaching 3 goals or more.

Kaizer Chiefs 22/10

Draw 21/10

Mamelodi Sundowns 14/10

Suggested bet:  The draw at 21/10.

It is not the most imaginative of selections but would have arrived in the last 2 head-to-heads between the sides and there is not much between these teams.

Free State Stars v Witsclick here to bet

Stars are currently sitting just outside the relegation zone in 14th spot and they ended 2018 with 3 successive losses and without a win in their last 5 starts.  They have only won 3 from 8 home matches this season.

Wits start the New Year top of the table with 9 wins in their 15 games and they are undefeated in their last 4 starts.  Their away form has been particularly impressive with 5 wins in 7 games and they have yet to taste defeat in their travels.

Wits beat Free State Stars 3-0 in the reverse fixture and last season this fixture finished 2-2.

Free State Stars 63/20

Draw 51/20

Wits 17/20

Suggested bet:  Handicap, Free State Stars (+1) at 9/10.

Stars are well capable of troubling Wits on their day and I think they can get something out of this game.

Highlands Park v Orlando Piratesclick here to bet

Highlands are sitting mid-table on 20 points from their 15 matches and they are undefeated in their last 4.  At home they have won 3 of 7 matches, tasting defeat only once and their home games averaged 2.4 goals each.

Pirates are 2nd on the log, 3 points behind leaders Wits and they haven’t lost in their last 11 PSL matches.  They have won 5 of their 8 games on the road, losing only 1 and 4 of the 8 Pirates away matches have delivered for over 2.5 goal backers.

Highlands Park 26/10

Draw 43/20

Orlando Pirates 23/20

Suggested bet:  Pirates win at 23/20.

The sides played out a draw in the reverse fixture hosted by Pirates but I think Pirates have made great strides since then and I think they will be too strong for the PSL newcomers.

Golden Arrows v Maritzburg Unitedclick here to bet

Sundays match sees 11th placed Golden Arrows host bottom of the table Maritzburg United.

Arrows have taken 16 points from their 15 fixtures and they have only won 1 of their last 6 matches in the PSL. Their home form has been poor with just 2 wins in 7 and those 7 home games have only averaged 1.7 goals each and only 2 of them delivering for over 2.5 goal backers.

Maritzburg United are without a win in their last 9 matches and they have really battled to score goals getting just 5 in their 14 games to date.  They have won 1 out of 6 away fixtures which averaged just 1 goal each and perhaps not surprisingly, only 1 of the 6 matches reached a total of 3 goals.

Golden Arrows 15/10

Draw 19/10

Maritzburg United 43/20

Suggested bet:  The draw at 19/10.

These teams are both struggling and while Arrows are at home, I think that Maritzburg will get something out of this and the draw is probably the value bet and arrives on a regular basis when these teams play each other.
