South Africa v Australia, Rugby Championship Preview

South Africa host Australia at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Saturday and they will be looking to keep their momentum going ahead of next week’s return bash with New Zealand.

Let us start with a look at the outright betting where South Africa have shortened from 50/1 to 18/1 to win the Rugby Championship, New Zealand remain 1/100 shots for victory and the betting without New Zealand are South Africa 9/20, Argentina 7/2 and Australia 5/1 –  click here for outright betting markets

South Africa caused a massive upset when they beat New Zealand 36-34 in Wellington 2 weeks ago, that result came on the back of away defeats to Argentina and Australia and they now return home to where they beat Argentina in their opening match in Durban.  Australia will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing 4 point loss to Argentina at home having previously beaten South Africa in Brisbane but lost by over 20 points to New Zealand home and away.

South Africa and Australia drew 27-27 when they met in Bloemfontein last season but South Africa had won the previous 4 Rugby Championship matches at home against Australia with 3 of those victories by 18 points or more.

South Africa 7/20

Draw 28/1

Australia 5/2

South Africa -8.5 at 9/10

Australia +8.5 at 9/10

Suggested bet:  Handicap, South Africa (-8.5) at 9/10.

South Africa will have taken tremendous confidence from their win over New Zealand and while a wounded Australian side is always dangerous, I think the Boks will prove too strong up front and their defense will hammer the Aussies into submission.  I am expecting a double figure winning margin.
