The first Pro 14 Rugby match between all South African opposition takes place this weekend with the Kings hosting the Cheetahs at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday night and we take a look at the game from a betting perspective.
Southern Kings v Cheetahs – click here to bet
The Kings are currently rock bottom of Conference B and are without a victory in their 11 matches collecting just 4 bonus points along the way. They took a 30 point beating away in Edinburgh in terrible conditions last week and they have lost all 5 home matches, 3 of them by over 20 points.
The Cheetahs currently sit 3rd in Conference A but they do have 2 games in hand over the rest of their Conference and are still in with a shout of making the playoffs. They were disappointing last week when leading early and then going down 27-21 against Benetton Treviso in Italy, where a couple of yellow cards cost them dearly. This will be the Cheetahs 7th match in SA (all played in Bloem) and they have won 6 of the previous 7 with the only defeat coming against the Glasgow Warriors. On the road they have 1 win and 4 defeats with the lone win a single point victory over Zebre.
These sides haven’t met in the Pro 14 but they did meet in Super Rugby in July this year when the Southern Kings went down by 1 point at home to the Cheetahs. The Southern Kings squad does look very different these days though.
Southern Kings 15/4
Kings +13.5 at 9/10
Cheetahs -13.5 at 9/10
Suggested bet: Handicap, Cheetahs -13.5 at 9/10.
This is a very weak Kings side and while they are capable of lifting themselves at home, the Cheetahs have far more to play for and I fancy them to dish out another hiding to the Kings.
