Spain and Russia meet in a World Cup last 16 match on Sunday and we take a look at the form of the sides to date and suggest a bet in the game.
Let’s start with an outright betting update and with the group stages behind us we have Brazil the ruling favourites at 7/2 ahead of Spain at 4/1, Belgium are 13/2, England 15/2, France 8/1 and you can get 11/1 and better the balance. Despite playing at home Russia are considered rank outsiders at 65/1 – click here for outright betting markets

Spain topped Group B ahead of Portugal by virtue of the fact that they scored more goals and they finished the group stages with 2 draws and a victory. They generally dominated possession but haven’t created as many clear cut chances as they would like and they will be concerned that they conceded 5 goals in the group stages.
Hosts Russia started the tournament brilliantly when they hammered Saudi Arabia 5-0 and they followed this up with a 3-1 win over Egypt. They were beaten 3-0 by Uruguay in their final match though and this resulted in them finishing 2nd in the group.
Suggested bet: Halftime/Fulltime, Draw/Spain at 31/10
Spain should be too strong for Russia but they have struggled to break teams defences down and I expect Russia to adopt a fairly conservative approach and will be backing them to be level at the break with Spain winning in regulation time.
