After suffering a wide margin defeat to Sri Lanka in the first test South Africa need to win the second contest which starts in Colombo on Friday.
The Proteas came into this series as favourites but they crashed to a 278 run defeat in Galle last week and the bulk of their problems came in the batting department. Replying to Sri Lanka’s first innings total of 287 all out the Proteas could manage only 126. Worse was to follow after Sri Lanka increased their lead with 190 in their second knock and the fourth innings saw South Africa bowled out for only 73 runs.
Sri Lanka had star performers with bat and ball. Dimuth Karunaratne was unbeaten on 158 in their first innings and he made 60 in the second whilst Dilruwan Perera took 4 Proteas wickets in the first innings and another 6 in the second.
The only Proteas batsmen to offer any resistance was Faf du Plessis with 49 in the first innings and the rest of the batting line up needs to catch a wake up if South Africa are to escape with a 1-1 series draw as this is just a 2 match series.
The Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo is the venue for the second test. South Africa drew here on their last visit in 2014 and in more recent times Sri Lanka were thrashed by India by an innings and 53 runs in August last year.

Bets: Man Of The Match, Karunaratne at 9/1 and Rabada at 11/1
We look to the Man of the Match market for the betting interest with a pick for each side. Karunaratne was superb for the hosts in Galle whilst Rabada was one of the few Proteas to emerge with any credit.
