Super Rugby Preview, Friday 15 February

Super Rugby is back at last and we take a look at the 2 fixtures taking place on Friday and suggest a bet in each.

Chiefs v Highlandersclick here to bet

The Chiefs are 13/2 third favourites for Super Rugby – click here for outright betting but punters haven’t reacted well to the naming of their side and there has been plenty of money for the Highlanders this week.  The Chiefs won 6 out of 8 home matches last season and 3 out of 4 New Zealand derbies.  All 3 of Chiefs wins against New Zealand sides were by less than 12 points.

The Highlanders battled on the road last season, winning 3 times and losing 6.  They lost 3 out of 4 New Zealand derbies and 2 of those defeats came by 13 points or more.

The Chiefs beat the Highlanders 27-22 last year but that broke a run of 2 successive Highlanders away wins.

Chiefs +0.5 at 9/10

Highlanders -0.5 at 9/10

Suggested bet:  Highlanders win at 9/10.

They look to have made the stronger side and although I missed the early prices I am happy to back them as I think they could shorten further.

Brumbies v Rebelsclick here to bet

The Brumbies are 19/10 second favourites to win the Australian Conference and they open with a derby against the Rebels who are 26/10.

The Brumbies won 4 of 8 home matches last season and they lost 2 of their 3 home games against Australian sides including going down 27-24 to the Rebels.  The Rebels won 3 and lost 5 of their 8 away games and their only victory against Australian opposition on the road came against the Brumbies.

Brumbies -3.5 at 9/10

Rebels +3.5 at 9/10

Suggested bet:  First-half Winning Margin, Brumbies by 1-7 points inclusive at 22/10

This has the makings of a tight game and the handicap looks well set.  I am going to have a bet that the home team have a narrow lead at the break.
