Having covered the Chiefs v Lions game in its own preview we take a look at the remaining 2 Super Rugby matches taking place on Friday and suggest a bet in each game.
To start with a quick betting update on the outright markets where the Crusaders are 6/10 to win the Tournament with the Hurricanes 11/2 and such is the open nature of this year’s edition that you can get 14/1 and better the balance – click here for outright betting.
Sunwolves v Hurricanes – click here to bet
The Sunwolves have won only 2 matches this season and both of those were on the road against the Waratahs and the Chiefs. They lost 42-15 to the Rebels at home in their last start and are coming off a bye. Sunwolves home games have averaged 61 points each this season.
The Hurricanes have won 5, drawn 1 and lost 2 of their matches this season with both defeats coming to the Crusaders. Their last start was 2 weeks ago when they beat the Highlanders 31-28 in Dunedin and Hurricanes away games have averaged 51 points each.
Sunwolves +14.5 at 9/10
Hurricanes -14.5 at 9/10
Suggested bet: Handicap, Hurricanes -14.5 at 9/10
The Hurricanes are resting a few players, but they still are able to put out a very strong team with plenty of depth. The Sunwolves have punched above their weight this season, but I think they are going to find this Hurricanes side hard to contain.
Sharks v Reds – click here to bet
The Sharks continue to be inconsistent and followed up a brilliant away win over the Lions with a terrible performance at home to the Jaguares last where they lost 17-51. They have won 2 and lost 3 of their home matches this season and the games in Durban have been low scoring as always averaging 41 points each, although last week’s game did deliver 68 points.
The Reds have won 3 and lost 5 of their first 8 matches and last week found the Bulls too strong in Pretoria, losing by 15. They had beaten the Stormers by 12 points at home prior to that and their only away win this season came at the Sunwolves. Reds away games have averaged 57 points each.
The Sharks have won their last 5 home matches in succession against the Reds and while 4 of those have come by margins of 12 points or less, the last time they met they beat the Reds by 15 points but that was back in 2014.
Sharks -12.5 at 9/10
Reds +12.5 at 9/10
Suggested bet: Handicap, Sharks -12.5 at 9/10
It is hard to be confident when calling Sharks games, but I believe they are capable of putting last week’s poor showing behind them and delivering something more along the lines of what we saw against the Lions.
